EN The Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) training program is a four-level curriculum centered on the "Game of the Scene" philosophy. Levels must be taken in order, each lasting 12 weeks. UCB also offers parallel tracks in sketch comedy, stand-up, musical improv, and character/clowning work. Classes are available both in-person (New York, Los Angeles) and online.

Improv 101: Fundamentals and Game of the Scene

EN The foundational level. Students learn the core agreements that make scenes work — "Yes, And" (accepting and building on your partner's offers), active listening, commitment to the reality of the scene, and finding a consistent comic voice. Central to UCB's approach is discovering the "Game of the Scene": the unusual or heightened behavior that the scene keeps returning to and exploring.

Студенты осваивают ключевые принципы, на которых держится сцена: «Да, и...» (принятие предложения партнёра и его развитие), активное слушание, полное погружение в реальность сцены и поиск собственного комедийного голоса. Главный акцент UCB — обнаружение «Игры сцены»: необычного или заострённого поведения, к которому сцена возвращается и которое исследует снова и снова.

Improv 201: Refining Fundamentals and Expanding Concepts

EN Students deepen their scene work by learning to edit scenes at the right moment, handle group scenes with clarity, and heighten the Game of the Scene through second beats. Character development and object work become central tools for grounding scenes in a specific physical and emotional reality.

RU Студенты углубляют технику сцены: учатся делать монтаж в нужный момент, работать в групповых сценах с ясностью намерений и заострять Игру сцены через вторые биты. Работа с персонажем и с воображаемыми предметами становятся главными инструментами, позволяющими укоренить сцену в конкретной физической и эмоциональной реальности.

Improv 301: The Harold — Long-form Structure

EN Students learn the Harold — UCB's signature long-form structure — which organises a full show around a single opening suggestion. The Harold consists of three beats of three two-person scenes, separated by group games, with callbacks and thematic connections emerging across beats. Students practice different opening styles, group pattern games, and the craft of long-form narrative.

RU Студенты осваивают Харолд — фирменную долгоформную структуру UCB, которая выстраивает целый спектакль вокруг одного зрительского предложения. Харолд состоит из трёх битов по три двухчеловечные сцены, разделённых групповыми играми; между битами возникают колбэки и тематические связи. Студенты отрабатывают различные форматы открытий, групповые паттерн-игры и ремесло долгоформного нарратива.

EN The advanced level prepares students for UCB house team auditions. Work focuses on complex ensemble dynamics, developing individual comic voice beyond the Harold, and exploring alternative long-form structures. Performance coaching helps students integrate all prior skills into a cohesive, distinctive performance style.

RU Продвинутый уровень готовит студентов к прослушиванию в труппы UCB. Акцент делается на сложной ансамблевой динамике, развитии индивидуального комедийного голоса за рамками Харолда, а также на исследовании альтернативных долгоформных структур. Работа с тренером помогает интегрировать все накопленные навыки в цельный и самобытный стиль исполнения.
