Status Switch

DescriptionОписание

EN A timed scene built around a clear pecking order: each character is assigned a status number, with 1 being highest. By the end of the scene the rankings have completely reversed — the character who started at 1 ends at the bottom, and every intermediate rank mirrors that flip. All status changes must be earned and justified through what happens in the scene.

How to Play

EN

  1. Assign each player a status number before the scene begins. Number 1 is the highest status; the higher the number, the lower the status (e.g., in a four-player scene the order is 1 → 2 → 3 → 4).
  2. Begin the scene with each character clearly playing their assigned status level through body language, speech, and behavior.
  3. Play the scene normally, but with the goal that the status hierarchy will reverse by the end: character 1 ends at the bottom, 4 at the top, 2 and 3 swap, and so on.
  4. Every shift in status must be justified — something in the scene must believably motivate each change. Status cannot flip arbitrarily.
  5. Optionally, the emcee or host may call for the switch at a chosen moment during the scene rather than letting it unfold organically.
  6. The scene concludes once the reversal is complete and the new hierarchy is established.

RU

Sidecoach /

EN

  • "Justify the shift — what just happened to change things?"
  • "Show the status in your body, not just your words."
  • "You're a 1 — act like it." / "You were a 1 — you're not anymore."

RU

Variations

EN

  • With two players the switch is simply high-to-low / low-to-high; with larger groups the full hierarchy reversal adds complexity.
  • The host may call the switch at a surprising moment, challenging players to justify an abrupt change instantly.

RU
