Verbalizing the Where

DescriptionОписание

EN Two or more players sit quietly on stage with an agreed-upon Where, Who, and What. Without leaving their chairs, they narrate the entire scene aloud — describing their actions, the physical environment, and their relationships to the other players — speaking in the present tense and shifting into direct dialogue only when necessary. After the verbal run-through, the players stand and actually play the scene, carrying as much physical reality from the narration into the action as possible.

How to Play

EN

  1. Agree on a Where (location), Who (relationship between players), and What (the activity or situation).
  2. All players sit in chairs on stage. No one stands up or moves around during Part A.
  3. Each player narrates their own actions in the first person, present tense — describing physical objects, movements, and sensory details as if living them moment to moment.
  4. When direct speech to another player is needed, interrupt the narration and deliver the line directly; then return to narration.
  5. The entire scene — narration and dialogue alike — stays in the present tense throughout.
  6. When the scene has been talked through to a natural end (Part A), everyone stands up and plays the scene through physically (Part B).
  7. In Part B, the point of concentration shifts to retaining as much physical reality from the verbalization as possible.

RU

EN Keep it in the present! Give us a detailed description of that object! Describe the other players for us! See yourself in action! What color is the sky!

Reflection /

EN Ask the players: Did talking through the scene help you feel more grounded in the physical reality when you played it? Was the playing easier or richer after the verbalization? Ask the audience: Was there more detail and life in the scene than usual? Did the players' involvement and relationship seem deeper?
