EN The Big Chief is a circle rhythm game from Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed work. The group secretly elects a chief who continuously initiates changes in rhythm and movement while one player, sent out of the room beforehand, returns and tries to identify who the chief is.

RU «Большой вождь» — игра с ритмом в круге из практики Театра угнетённых Аугусто Боаля. Группа тайно выбирает вождя, который постоянно задаёт и меняет ритм и движения, а один игрок, заранее вышедший из комнаты, возвращается и пытается угадать, кто им является.

How to PlayКак играть

1. All players sit on the floor in a circle.
2. One player is sent out of the room — they will be the guesser.
3. While that player is outside, the group quietly agrees on a "big chief": the person who will lead all rhythm and movement changes.
4. The guesser is invited back into the room and stands or sits so they can observe the whole circle.
5. The big chief begins a rhythmic movement or sound; everyone in the circle follows immediately.
6. The big chief changes the rhythm or movement whenever they like, and the rest of the group switches with them as smoothly as possible, trying not to give the chief away.
7. The guesser watches and tries to work out who the big chief is.
8. Once the guesser names the chief (or gives up), rotate roles and play again.

2. Один игрок выходит из комнаты — он будет угадывающим.
3. Пока этот игрок снаружи, группа тихо договаривается, кто станет «большим вождём» — тем, кто будет задавать все изменения ритма и движений.
4. Угадывающего приглашают вернуться в комнату; он встаёт или садится так, чтобы видеть весь круг.
5. Большой вождь начинает ритмическое движение или звук; все в круге немедленно повторяют.
6. Вождь меняет ритм или движение по своему усмотрению, а остальные переключаются вместе с ним как можно незаметнее, стараясь не выдать вождя.
7. Угадывающий наблюдает и пытается понять, кто является большим вождём.
8. Как только угадывающий называет вождя (или сдаётся), роли меняются и начинается новый раунд.
