EN One actor goes into the middle of the space while the rest of the group, each in turn, expresses a rhythmic image of that person using their body — how they perceive them. After everyone has taken a turn individually, all performers repeat their rhythms simultaneously, creating a layered "orchestra." The actor in the centre then tries to integrate themselves into this collective rhythm.

1. One actor volunteers or is chosen to stand in the centre of the group.
2. The remaining participants take turns, one at a time, stepping forward and creating a physical rhythmic image of that person — a movement or gesture that captures how they perceive them.
3. Each person returns to their place after showing their rhythm.
4. Once everyone has had a turn, all participants perform their individual rhythms simultaneously, forming a collective "orchestra."
5. The actor in the centre observes and listens to this orchestra, then attempts to integrate themselves into it — moving, sounding, or existing within the layered rhythms.

Note: It is vital that participants try to see as deeply as possible into the person being observed. Caricature must be avoided at all costs.

• Variation: A single actor performs someone's rhythm. When that person recognises themselves in it, they take on that rhythm and begin performing someone else's rhythm — and so on.
• Hamlet variation: One actor starts the vocal and bodily rhythm of a character from a play in a particular scene. The others follow and try to discover which character is being portrayed and at which moment in the play.
