EN A Theatre of the Oppressed exercise in which each actor creates a still image with their chair, the workshop leader numbers every image, and then calls out those numbers while players move around the room — first one at a time, then two or more simultaneously.

How to PlayКак играть

1. Five actors each take one chair and place their body in some kind of relationship to it, creating a still image that involves both body and chair.
2. The workshop leader numbers the images: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
3. The actors begin moving freely around the room while the chairs stay in place.
4. The workshop leader calls out a single number; all actors must immediately assume the image that corresponds to that number.
5. After several rounds, the leader starts calling two numbers at once, and the actors must try to make both images at the same time.
6. Then three numbers at a time, and so on, increasing the complexity gradually.

1. Пять актёров берут по одному стулу и располагают своё тело в каком-либо отношении к нему, создавая неподвижный образ с участием тела и стула.
2. Ведущий нумерует образы: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
3. Актёры начинают свободно ходить по залу, стулья остаются на месте.
4. Ведущий называет один номер — все актёры должны мгновенно принять соответствующий образ.
5. После нескольких повторений ведущий начинает называть два номера одновременно: актёры пытаются воплотить оба образа сразу.

VariationsВариации

• Without chairs: The same exercise using only the actors' bodies — no props at all. Alternatively, any object at hand can be used in place of a chair.
• Hamlet variation: Actors form images of characters from Hamlet at a specific moment in the action. By the end of the exercise, everyone should be able to identify which character each person was embodying.

• Без стульев: То же упражнение, но с использованием только тел актёров — без каких-либо реквизитов. Как вариант, вместо стула можно взять любой подручный предмет.
• Вариант «Гамлет»: Актёры создают образы персонажей «Гамлета» в конкретный момент действия. К концу упражнения все участники должны понять, кого именно изображал каждый.
