One blind line, one sighted line

EN Two lines of actors stand facing each other. The actors in one line close their eyes and use their hands to feel the face and hands of the person opposite them. When the sighted line shuffles into a new order, each "blind" actor must find the partner they memorised — by touch alone. A variation turns the exercise into an Image Theatre task involving statues.

How to PlayКак играть

1. Divide the group into two equal lines standing face to face.
2. One line closes their eyes; the other line remains sighted.
3. Each actor with eyes closed uses their hands to carefully feel the face and hands of the person directly opposite.
4. After the blind actors have had time to memorise their partner through touch, the sighted actors quietly separate and shuffle into a new order along their line.
5. The blind actors must now move along the sighted line and find their original partner using only touch — feeling faces and hands until they recognise the right person.
6. Roles are then swapped so everyone experiences both sides.

5. Слепые актёры должны пройти вдоль зрячей линии и найти своего первоначального партнёра только на ощупь — ощупывая лица и руки, пока не узнают нужного человека.

VariationsВариации

EN Image Theatre variation: the sighted line forms individual statues — each person freezes in their own pose. The blind partners have one or two minutes to discover the shape of the statue opposite them by touch. They then return to their own line and reproduce that same image with their own body. Everyone opens their eyes to compare their version with the original.
